VBOX is a short-video mobile platform designed to seamlessly combine content viewing and creation in a single experience, where every registered user can both watch and upload videos. The platform follows a structured approach to short-form storytelling by automatically trimming all uploaded videos to a maximum of three minutes and organizing content using a series and episode model, allowing creators to publish meaningful, sequential content while enabling viewers to easily resume playback from where they last stopped. Users can explore the app in guest mode to browse public content, while full interaction features such as liking, commenting, tipping, following creators, and uploading videos are unlocked after signing in via Email OTP, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. Content discovery is driven through trending and recommended feeds, genre filters, hashtags, and search, ensuring a personalized and engaging viewing experience. Any user can become a creator and upload videos with options to save drafts, schedule publishing, or release content instantly, while adding metadata such as genres, tags, maturity ratings, and episode details. To maintain platform quality and safety, all uploads go through an admin review process, with clear notifications sent to creators regarding approval or rejection status. VBOX supports creator monetization through viewer tips, ad-based revenue sharing, and ad-free subscriptions, with transparent revenue splits and automated payouts after bank and KYC verification. Creators can view basic performance insights such as views, tips, and engagement through a simple analytics panel. The platform also includes real-time notifications for tips received, new episode uploads, payout updates, and moderation status. On the backend, a powerful admin panel allows platform owners to manage users, content, moderation workflows, payouts, subscriptions, and financial reports efficiently. Built with scalability and creator empowerment at its core, VBOX is designed to grow into a comprehensive video ecosystem with future enhancements such as advanced creator tools, paid content, and AI-assisted features.

Problem Statement
The primary challenge was implementing fair creator-level monetization using Google Ads. While Google AdMob provides revenue data at the account level, it does not natively support earnings breakdown per creator or per video. Since the platform’s core promise was creator-first monetization, accurately attributing ad revenue to individual creators based on video performance, views, and engagement introduced significant technical complexity.
Solutions
We conducted multiple proof-of-concept experiments and evaluated various ad SDKs before finalizing Google AdMob for in-app advertising. To bridge the gap in creator-level revenue attribution, we designed a custom earnings calculation engine that estimates per-video revenue based on engagement metrics and ad performance signals. These earnings were credited to each creator’s in-app wallet, from which they could request withdrawals after KYC verification—successfully aligning AdMob monetization with a creator-centric payout model.

Technical Architecture
A creator-first short-video platform that empowers storytelling through episodic content and fair monetization. React Native mobile app connects to Supabase backend for video content and user management. AWS S3 provides storage/CDN for video content, while Next.js admin panel handles content moderation workflows. Cashfree manages creator monetization (tips, payouts), with custom ad revenue attribution engine estimating per-video earnings based on engagement metrics for in-app wallet withdrawals.
